Somewhere between a box of strips and a dental chain’s top price sits what Danyale wanted Cincinnati to have. On the studio’s site she calls it “a self-care experience as elevated as the ones people travel to other cities for.”
What does each kind of whitening cost around Cincinnati?
It depends on the route, and the routes differ as much as the prices do. The American Dental Association sorts whitening three ways: bleaching in a dentist’s office, dentist-supplied products you use at home, and over-the-counter products, each with its own peroxide strength and timeline.
The price ladder
Price, lowest to highest
| Option | Price | What you get for it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drugstore whitening strips | $9.99 – $64.99 | 3 to 20 uses per box, off the shelf. The two kits with an LED light are $49.99 and $64.99. Website prices; store prices can differ. | |
| Mail-order LED kit, deal site | $16.99 – $28.99 | Trays you mold yourself, a 10ml gel syringe, remineralizing gel, a blue-LED light and a case; the higher tier adds polishing tools and a touch-up pen. Ships nationally. | |
| Mail-order custom trays from an at-home impression | $149.95 – $189.95 | Upper and lower trays made from an impression you take at home, 3 to 9 gel syringes (the sensitive versions include desensitizing gel), a free impression kit, free shipping and a 45-day money-back window. No office visit. | |
| Non-dentist studio session, Cincinnati metro | $74 – $145list; $99 – $120 on deal sites | One session, one guest. Chill Cryotherapy, Montgomery Rd: $79 single, $222 for three. EC Aesthetics, Blue Ash: $90 / $115 / $145 for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Groupon: Better Looks Body Contour, $99; Glow With Christy, Liberty Township, $120. | |
| Frowns R Upside Down, in-studio session | $125 | One guest, under 30 minutes, a zero-gravity massage chair and an LED mask. Cosmetic only; you seat your own tray. | frownsrupsidedown.com |
| Dentist whitening, Cincinnati practices | $120 and $300 | Sharonville Family Dental lists “Teeth Whitening $120” beside custom trays and two tubes of gel for home use, without stating whether the $120 covers an in-office session. Total Dentistry Cincinnati: take-home trays with gel, $300. | |
| Dentist whitening, national chain | $359 – $485stated average $449 | Aspen Dental’s whitening includes a shade assessment, gum barriers, whitening gel with LED light, sensitivity management, take-home maintenance trays with touch-up gel, and a follow-up consultation. The figure isn’t split between in-office and take-home. |
Prices as listed, September 2026. Aspen Dental’s figures are a chain-wide approximation, and for local pricing it points you to its offices, including five in Cincinnati. Deal-site prices move.
Is $125 a fair price for teeth whitening?
Yes, for what’s included. Studios around Cincinnati list $74 to $145 a session, so $125 sits in the upper half, and it’s well under a national dental chain’s $359 to $485.
The room tips the scale, and so does the reason it exists. Danyale started the studio because, as she puts it, “I needed to smile more and I hated my yellow teeth.” Inside, the lights come down and the arctic blue comes up. For under 30 minutes, the only person you have to take care of is you.
If you’ll be back, membership covers six visits a year, built around LED light and whitening maintenance, with the zero-gravity massage every visit. Ask which visits include a full whitening session when you join. Monthly members book their first visit after three payments, and annual memberships start right away.
What’s included in the price of a session?
One session covers one guest and one visit, with the massage chair, an LED mask while you wait, a shade comparison, aftercare and a turn at the selfie station. You sink into the chair, seat your own gel tray, slip on the mask and let the chair take the weight of the week.
A trained whitening technician sets up your station, walks you through each step, and stays with you — you handle everything that goes in your mouth.
It doesn’t include an exam, take-home trays or a follow-up dental visit. The gel’s peroxide strength isn’t on the menu, so ask when you book, here or anywhere else. For scale, the ADA puts dentist-supplied at-home systems at 10% to 38% carbamide peroxide and says over-the-counter products use lower concentrations than in-office or dentist-prescribed ones.
Deposits are non-refundable and count toward your total, and the remaining balance is processed one week before your booking. Planning something custom? A free consult helps you shape it.
When you’re ready, book online or call (877) 3-FROWNS. The day’s final experience is at 7:00 PM.

Why does whitening at a dentist usually cost more?
Because you’re buying more than whitening. Aspen Dental’s whitening, for one, comes with gum barriers, sensitivity management, take-home maintenance trays and a follow-up consultation. You’re also paying for speed. In a study the ADA cites, an over-the-counter product took 16 days to get where a tray system got in seven and an in-office visit got in one. And a dentist can examine your mouth and deal with what they find. A session at Frowns R Upside Down is purely cosmetic, under 30 minutes in a room that lets you exhale.
Pricing a dentist usually means a phone call. Twin Dental asks you to contact the office for an exact quote, and Total Dentistry Cincinnati calls its posted fees “general information only,” with a detailed estimate after an exam. Ask what that exam costs, too.
Check with your dental plan, HSA or FSA before you count on it paying toward any of these routes. The ADA describes tooth whitening as elective.
Who should see a dentist first?
See a dentist before you book if you have untreated decay, active gum disease, a single dark tooth you can’t explain, tetracycline banding, or pain that was there before any whitening.
Crowns, veneers, bonding and composite fillings won’t lighten. The American Dental Association says only natural teeth can be whitened, so existing dental work keeps its shade and can end up looking mismatched next to the teeth around it. If most of what shows when you smile is dental work, talk to the dentist who placed it.
Sessions aren’t offered during pregnancy, as a studio precaution, and anyone under 18 should confirm with the studio before booking. Danyale is not a dentist and no one at the studio diagnoses anything, so a question about your own mouth goes to a dentist who can examine it.
When is a cheaper option the smarter buy?
When nothing’s rushing you. Over-the-counter products cost less and take their time, and if there’s no big day on the horizon, the extra days may not matter. Drugstore strips start at $9.99, and Smile Brilliant’s custom trays, made from an impression you take at home, skip the office visit entirely.
If you want a studio at the lowest price, Chill Cryotherapy’s three-session pack works out to $74 a session. And if you want it to feel like a treat, that’s the $125 chair at Frowns R Upside Down, with the lights down.
What does whitening cost for a group?
For nine to twelve people, it’s $1,710 to $2,280 at checkout when the studio comes to you, or $2,499 flat when your group takes over the studio. At your place, the listed price is $1,800 for nine plus $200 for each guest up to twelve, and the booking page takes 5% off, which comes to $190 a guest at any size. The takeover runs two and a half hours and works out to roughly $208 to $278 a guest.
Whitening is there for every guest either way, so choose by the party you want around it. The group booking runs two hours at your place and brings LED light, oral prep kits, curated ambiance and a selfie station. The takeover gives your group the whole studio, with a grazing station and the massage chair experience.
Picture it at your place. One friend takes their turn while the rest of the room keeps the party going. If you can already see it, read how a whitening party actually works before you choose.
No package covers two to eight guests. For a smaller group, call (877) 3-FROWNS and talk it through.

Will the studio come to you?
Yes. A private 20-minute session at your place is $175, and the group booking travels too. For the takeover, your group comes to the studio on Madison Road.
| Neighborhood | Approx. drive from 1624 Madison Rd | In-studio, mobile, or both |
|---|---|---|
| Hyde Park | 5–8 min | Both |
| Mount Lookout | 8–12 min | Both |
| Over-the-Rhine | 8–12 min | Both |
| Newport, KY | 10–15 min | Both |
| Covington, KY | 12–18 min | Both |
| Anderson Township | 18–25 min | Both |
| Mason | 30–40 min | Both — confirm mobile when booking |
| West Chester | 30–40 min | Both — confirm mobile when booking |
Drive times are rough off-peak estimates from the studio at DeSales Corner in East Walnut Hills. Give Mason and West Chester extra time at rush hour on I-71 and I-75, and confirm mobile there when you book.
In person, you’ll find the studio next door to its barbershop. As Danyale writes, “Come in for both. Walk out unstoppable.”
